| Reflect Upon Abstract Wood Sculpture The sculpture is painted wood. Pieces of standing dead aspen, trees whose surface has been scoured by wind, snow and sun, removing all the bark, have been cut to form the kanji "reflect upon." Gradations of red and black paint accent the ends of the nine "strokes." Two birch ply panels form a background. These panels are painted directly with thinned paint, revealing the wood. Both panels have columns of symbols which are not kanji, but rather glyphs created by the artist. The aspen and the panels are protected by acrylic varnish. Reflect Upon |
